Alliant Energy subsidiary Interstate Power & Light Co. plans to invest about $85 million in emission clean-up technology at its 317-MW coal-fired facility in Lansing, IA.

Construction is expected to begin this summer to install a selective catalytic reduction system and low nitrogen oxide burners.  The SCR system will cost about $85 million.  IPL expects the technologies to remove in excess of 90% of the NOx emissions annually from Lansing Unit 4.

IPL has also filed plans with the Iowa Utilities Board for the installation of a baghouse designed to capture a minimum of 90% of the mercury emissions from Unit 4.

Both the SCR and the baghouse are expected to be completed by late 2009.
